And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

If offered the opportunity, would you agree to do this?
Absolutely yes, but only if I could pee on it from up there, and not inside the piddle pack in the suit. I mean like taking a whiz from Shanghai to St. Petersburg. (Knowing the technical difficulties, I'd settle for loading a giant Super Soaker before the EVA, and letting it fly vicariously.)
Like the first time SCUBA diving, the first few moments would be a very odd sensation to be rapidly overcome by a sense of freedom never felt before....HELL YES I WOULD DO IT!!!!
I suspect that this would require an unusual level of courage that the average person would lack. Brings to mind the responses I used to get when suggesting that various streetbike riders should look into getting some roadracing track experience. I never really understood their thinking. Gutsy enough to ride somewhat fast on the street, and loved to spectate at races, but couldn't fathom actually getting on the track, even to take a New Riders Class for club level racing. For me, racing was the most intense activity you could do while being dressed.
I can think of few greater gifts than to be taken into space.
ReplyDeleteI concur!
DeleteHal, open the hatch
ReplyDeleteHEEEEELLLLLL noooo!
ReplyDeleteWould I have to come back?
ReplyDeleteIf they're willing to take my fat ass up there... HELL YEAH!!!!!

DeleteI certainly would.
ReplyDeleteHey, if you're already out there that far, What the heck?
ReplyDeleteThis is why there are space dogs, to give someone an excuse to space-walk.
ReplyDeleteSheeeeeeeeeyit yes.
ReplyDeleteUntethered. Hundreds of feet from the Shuttle. Your own satellite a couple hundred miles above Earth. [Insert every possible way to say "Yes!" here.]
ReplyDeleteBTW - I picked up a ball cap from Kennedy Space Center that has embroidered across the front my ultimate fantasy vacation -- "Hike the Moon."
Yep, in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteThe experts say we need to depopulate the earth a bit. Let's just offer a free trip to space and watch em line up. Heh heh

Oh yes!
ReplyDeleteThe stars, like dust, encircle me
In living mists of light;
And all of space I seem to see
In one vast burst of sight

Absolutely!

ReplyDeleteIf they told me on the morning just after the Challenger disaster, that I could go up the very next day if I wanted to, I would have said YES!
ReplyDeleteI know I would be queasy with space sickness the entire time but still... Yes! Yes! a thousand times Yes!
