And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My Uncle Stan dated Debbie Reynolds at Burbank High School, but she was known as “Frannie” back then. (The name “Debbie” was assigned by Hollywood exec later.) Years later Uncle Stan was assigned to a military base in the Middle East. Word came that Debbie Reynolds would be visiting/entertaining and the whole base was abuzz. My uncle casually announced that he knew Debbie personally and that they were good friends, which set his base partners scoffing in disbelief. “No really,” Stan said, “she’ll probably see me and give me a big hug and a kiss.” At that, bets were made. Lots of bets, and lots of money. The day came, Debbie Reynolds and her entourage got off the plane and were walking along the tarmac. Soldiers were lined up for a glimpse along the roped-off tarmac.
When she came near, Stan yelled, “Frannie!” The surprised Miss Reynolds saw who it was, yelled “Stan!”. She ran over, threw her arms around him and gave him a big hug and a kiss.
