And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

A Swedish soldier aims his Carl Gustav m/45
Keeping the Russians and Germans out of Sweden. It's a big job.
The Swedish K stands out in that era as one of the most reliable SMG's. They were favored by CIA operators in Vietnam and Laos and stitched many a living target.
I recently rewatched Band of Brothers and found that I hadn't remembered all the times the guys referred to bringing souvenir Lugers & other weapons home. (Though one fellow managed to shoot himself with one & died from the wound; that was Hoobler's Luger, and was apparently fictional.)
Of course that was back when we still had a free country and you could do things like that. I wonder how many submachine guns came home that were never accounted for?

ReplyDeleteI'd love to play with one, but, you know, our government just can't trust a peon like me with a toy like that.
