Bringing back the memories

It was a good enough four wheeler to get us into the deep woods before it broke down.  Like the time Kevin burned the clutch completely up on the way to Beebe Lake, leaving the Land Cruiser perfectly immobile in the middle of a very rough back road.  A helpful deer hunter used his CB radio to call someone in West Point, who in turn phoned for help.   It was of course a very expensive extraction and repair for a high school kid, even though Kevin did the clutch work himself.

Or the time we were coming back from a fishing trip to the Mokelumne River at night, when the cable from the gas pedal snapped and retracted itself into the firewall, leaving us with an idling car on the side of the road on a very dark night.   We had to jam the carburetor into one speed, which left us racing down hills and bogging up, but we got home.

I wonder what Kevin finally did with that old machine.

  1. I'm lovin' the anti theft jack stand at the RR. Maybe Kevin fixed his red 40 up and this is it??

    1. Could be. It did have a new clutch back in the 70's. ;-)

  2. The 40's were nearly indestructible and if you have one that looks "nearly" destroyed, it's fun to bring it back. Off road, they were miraculous, but on highway, they'd beat you to death.
