One man's two day battle to keep his Nissan Leaf charged enough to use.

It's got an 80 mile range.  That's just pathetic. Another problem, even in electric car friendly San Francisco, is there aren't enough charging stations, and it takes at least twenty minutes plugged in to get a useful charge.

Tesla is trying to address this problem by having removable battery packs, so when you go to the station, they simply unplug and remove your exhausted ones, and install a fully charged set. 5 or 10 minutes. Much better than waiting around a charging station for an open spot and then waiting around for the car to fill with juice.  The Tesla solution in far more of a real fix, since not everyone can plan their schedule around a charging trip that could range from 20 minutes to an hour and a half.

I predict that without a quick industry wide solution to this issue, the early adopters get frustrated, and go back to gas, which will discourage the rest of the public from even considering an electric, even in the Bay Area.

  1. Electric cars blow. My gasoline cars can convey me anywhere I want to go, giving me freedom of travel, like a free citizen would expect. And that is why the Powers That Be want us to be forced into Electric cars...I can gas up and drive DC to Phoenix say, in like 3 days. If I have to stop every 50 to 60 miles, realistic range with heat lights and wipers on, then I have lost the freedom to travel. Why else would they mandate a portion of the "fleet" be electric?

  2. "...like a free citizen would expect." That is precisely it. Just like the global warming scam, it's all about taking away our money and our freedom.

  3. I can already picture the fairer sex changing out an auto battery pack....which is less likely than seeing one of them change out the starting battery.
