  2. I'm curious as to whether the photographer carried a trunk of uniforms, etc, or if these were their personal garments.

  3. The state of Utah is named for the Ute Nation.

But, the Mormon pioneers actually hated that name, which was forced on them by the folks in Washington, D.C.

The Mormons wanted to call their territory, later to become a state, "Deseret", a word found in The Book of Mormon, which means, "Honeybee".

    1. Or Mormonopia. Give credit where it's due, those folk picked a great spot to found a city, and then did a fine job of putting one together. Good people.

    2. They picked land that nobody else wanted so that people would leave them be. And then they went to work and made it their own.

    3. Even the Indians didn't want the Valley of the Great Salt Lake.
