And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I recently read a great article about that oil cooler duct in the belly. The heating/expansion of the air over the hot oil actually causes thrust out the back. Enough to compensate for the drag of the scoop and perhaps even some left to propel the plane. Amazing engineering.
That is my favorite plane. I find it amazing that the men who flew those throughout the war simply stopped one day, came home and many never flew again. I've read about guys who smuggled pistols home and even know a guy who managed to smuggle a heavy machine gun we found one day in Kuwait, home. I'd have gone to some lengths to smuggle a P-51 home.
My lottery plane. I honestly believe this, the D model, is the best looking fighter plane ever built. Lou - after reading your comment, I remember reading about that oil cooler. What's amazing is they designed it with slide rules and knowledge. No super-computers or golly gee whiz simulators.
