I was killing time reading some trail/hike descriptions over at John Fedak's site, when I saw these pictures of a healthy looking black bear that crossed his path up near Sorensen's off of Carson Pass.

Even if you spend a lot of time in the mountains hiking around, you don't normally see too many bears, as they tend to prefer to sniff around after dark, but this one was still out in the morning.  Not only that, but this bear looks like life is treating him very well indeed. That is one glossy coat of fur he is sporting.

It's good to know that the big boys are still out there.
