And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Couple of thunderstorms rolled through hereabouts, so sat out in the back under the eve, started a fire in the 1919 parlor stove, and watched the flashing and listened to the rumble.
I did something similar up in Hat Creek. Lots of lightning strikes in 1000 Lakes Wilderness, up on the Rim and down around Old Station. During that we got hit with a torrential downpour and wind. That ended my sitting outside. Still, it was fun to watch.
West Texas is a good place for raising the garage door, grab the lawn chairs, invite the folks who enjoy that stuff..and when it's moving off,hop in the van, and give chase. Great fun.
I'm envious having loved the storms that saw frequently in the two late summer months I spent in the States in 1981. At home they are a novelty because they are quite rare.
Thunderstorms aren't that common in Redding, not like they are out in the Midwest, but the two or three times a year they roll through are fun. I will say this, I never saw golf ball sized hail until I moved here. I still have some dents in the hood of the Mighty Dodge from those ice bombs.
Grew up in SoCal and was rarely moved by weather but would visit my grandparents in Tulsa and got an inkling of how nature could beautifully entertain in a special way...and be frightening at times.
