And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
They are one of those things that pictures don't do justice. To see them in person is to truly "see" them and appreciate their enormous size. They look like something from the era of the dinosaur.
Nothing will humble anyone faster than standing next to one of these magnificent giants. When you think that the majority of the mature trees were around when Jesus walked the earth, and some were 1000 years old then, they are truly staggering.
So fortunate they weren't all cut down for lumber.

ReplyDeleteBetween the trees, a rat lives in the forrest duff, and an owl that eats the rats, its the densest formation of living organisms anywhere on earth.
