    1. According to a book I read many years ago about Herc missions in Vietnam, the Howitzer was fired 3 rounds, then pause, and another 3 rounds. The Author, who a Herc pilot, likened to being Kicked in the A** three times in a row.

  4. In Vietnam, we called the AC-130 gunships, "Spooky." It looks to me like the gun that is firing off the side of the plane is a mini gun not an artillery piece.

  5. I think they finally retired the 40mm Bofors "Pom Pom" guns which were the intermediate gun and replaced them with the 25mm Bushmaster. Been away from all that for a while.

  6. “ Normally when someone suggests 'let’s mount a Howitzer on an Airplane' you would think alcohol was involved.” - During WWII they mounted a 75 mm in the nose of the B-25. The alcohol REALLY kicked in when they’d said “sideways”!

  7. One landed at Langley AFB and got to go see it close up. Weapons operators as far as I know were same job classification as I was.
