And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
According to a book I read many years ago about Herc missions in Vietnam, the Howitzer was fired 3 rounds, then pause, and another 3 rounds. The Author, who a Herc pilot, likened to being Kicked in the A** three times in a row.
In Vietnam, we called the AC-130 gunships, "Spooky." It looks to me like the gun that is firing off the side of the plane is a mini gun not an artillery piece.
I think they finally retired the 40mm Bofors "Pom Pom" guns which were the intermediate gun and replaced them with the 25mm Bushmaster. Been away from all that for a while.
“ Normally when someone suggests 'let’s mount a Howitzer on an Airplane' you would think alcohol was involved.” - During WWII they mounted a 75 mm in the nose of the B-25. The alcohol REALLY kicked in when they’d said “sideways”!
If Big Spooky comes a circling.... You're hamburger meat.
ReplyDeleteI love me a Herc!! and I love me even more: A Herc with major attitude and big teeth!!

ReplyDeleteLook at the rear of the fuselage, that long pipey thingee.
DeleteI do the "pipey" thing but it's not firing. Is it?

ReplyDeleteOne landed at Langley AFB and got to go see it close up. Weapons operators as far as I know were same job classification as I was.
