Friday Open Road

  1. Driving through a herd of sheep - I've been there. Before I got to the herd one of the two Shepards jumped up on the running board and said "Just put it in your lowest gear and idle on through. They'll get out of your way".

And darned if they didn't. It was like driving through a quarter mile long dream.

  6. With the possible exception of the less-than-mental-giant standing on the surfboard mounted on the roof of the Porshe, it's another great Friday "Open Road" photo essay. The young lady sitting on top of the VW bus is the best!

    3. Wonder if she’s the mythical Alice from Stockbridge? Don’t see many red VW microbuses anymore.

  7. I think I've seen the skateboard GIF before. I believe he's on the road going down into the Columbia Gorge near Maryhill WA.

  8. Great pics. Friday Open Road is my favorite! That last shot is a Gen 1 Tacoma. I had one with the TRD Off Road package, Full ARB safari style front bumper and a WARN 4 ton winch. I never got it stuck. Drove through rivers and lakes, up mountains and through snow with mud underneath. My son has it now with over 300K miles on and still drives it. Some of it's capability comes from having such a light footprint with oversize tires.

    1. Tell your son to replace the distributor rotor shaft and plastic gears at 500,000 miles. That is an inexpensive way to prevent sudden engine stoppage.

  12. I missed this yesterday. I did 550 miles from Mammoth Cave to south Georgia, I hit 4 metro areas. Just under 10 hours.

  13. An especially wonderful set this week, CW, thank you. For a split second I thought that green Lambo had sunk into a road of big cobblestones. 😄
