  2. I built a 36" wing span version of this plane out of balsa when I was about 12. Yeah, Cox .049.

  3. My MD uncle surrendered his pilot's license when he saw the statistics on the death rate for doctor pilots in general, not just for the Bonanza.

    1. A rare exception to the "I know better than the boobs who wrote the manual" mentality.

That same mentality probably kills them in cars, boats, and everything else too, but no one tracks that.

Think about what kind of mental state you'd have to consistently maintain to do wrong-site surgery (amputating the healthy limb, etc.), and you have the answer to "why?".

  4. WOW - a factor of 4! “ Private planes have been associated with a higher risk of fatalities among doctors, with historical data showing that physician pilots had a fatal-accident rate four times higher than the average for all other private pilots. This trend has been attributed to factors such as risk-taking attitudes, poor judgment, and inadequate training for handling complex aircraft. Additionally, many doctors flew for recreational purposes, often without the same professional urgency that might justify the risks, leading to decisions to fly in adverse weather or with mechanical issues.”

    4. Professional Kennedy JFK JR bought the farm in a different high-performance aircraft, in his case a Piper Saratoga, the circumstances of which are yet another cautionary tale.

    2. I was an A&P at a Beechcraft Dealership back in my youth and the last one I worked on was brand new turbocharged A36 straight tail and the Dentist that owned it was killed when he crashed about mile short on landing. He was totally intoxicated flying around in a high performance aircraft.

  7. The V tail Bonanza required a lot of attention while flying it as it could get out of shape quickly. I liked the Cessna 172 which almost flew itself.
