And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
In Asia, when there is an earthquake, you run for the bamboo forest since the bamboo roots will hold you up and keep you from being swallowed up into the Earth. That's how dense the roots are.
Sometime in the late 1970s, the landscaping crew I was on had to remove a patch of bamboo about 20 by 10 feet. It took us four young, strong guys two days. Those roots are indeed dense and extended several feet down.
Bamboo even planted in a container is suspect. Anyone plants bamboo near your home is the enemy. Bamboo is tenacious, never quits. If given the chance, it'll kill you in your sleep.
