Truth. Somehow those "fuel & safety standards" put more gas-guzzlers on the roads and took a bunch of fuel-efficient cars off the road. I can't get a good small lightweight pickup; the smallest these days are still pretty big. And I can't get a current year production Toyota Yaris in the States either.
Also Truth. My completely rebuilt '65 Kenworth got almost 6 miles to the gallon. Try getting that in one of today's EPA and California Compliant Class 8 trucks.
