  1. ...back in the mid-50's, my first SW radideo was a second-hand Zenith Trans-Oceanic. The original Boom Box. D-cell batteries weighed near as much as the set.

  2. "portable" like the early "portable" computers: it had a handle, you could kinda-sorta lift it if you were 6-3 and played football.

  3. Motorola (Bill Lear) eliminated the static from car radios back in the 1920s. From those proceeds, he went into building the first business jets. Smart guy.

  4. Mr. Lear was also responsible, or so I've read, for the invention of 8-track tapes and the early machines that played them.
