And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
But a story. Back in the '80s, fireplaces became kind of a fad around central Florida. People would run their air conditioner set to "send me to debtor's prison" so they could start a fire.
On the other hand, if it's apple, cherry, or even oak to feed the smoker, I'm all in.
I restacked a fellow's woodpile to show him that he had a less wood than he thought. I was in the wood selling business so it was worth my while. He orded two cords when I got done. Order is the rule.
Have at least enough wood split, stacked and shelters to last several years....far longer than the food will last. And I have lots of calories stored also.
I’d venture cooking as opposed to heating. You’d be stoking every hour with splits that size & no rounds. I’ll second Matthew on the sugarshack. Or maybe a still….
Mennonite neighbor runs a specialty pallet shop. I get loads of hardwood scrap for next to nothing. Got '22 - '23 put back drying now... Starting on a '23 - '24 stack next week.
Same planet, different world.

I live in central Virginia and burn about 3 1/2 cords a winter (also have heat pump). To me, that photo is “ like money in the bank”!
ReplyDeleteI remember having your "wood in" early in the season was a great feeling! Not one I had very often.... :-)

ReplyDeleteAnd pray a wildfire doesn't come through and make it all disappear.
DeleteI speak from experience. I lost a pile of about 10 cords in a fire in 1994.
Now I keep a one winter stash here at the house, no more.
