When I see this I think "wealth."

  1. Same planet, different world.

But a story. Back in the '80s, fireplaces became kind of a fad around central Florida. People would run their air conditioner set to "send me to debtor's prison" so they could start a fire.

On the other hand, if it's apple, cherry, or even oak to feed the smoker, I'm all in.

  2. I live in central Virginia and burn about 3 1/2 cords a winter (also have heat pump). To me, that photo is “ like money in the bank”!

  3. I remember having your "wood in" early in the season was a great feeling! Not one I had very often.... :-)

  4. The pursuit of happiness . The liberty to enjoy and be secure in the fruits of one's own hard labor.

  5. I look at that and see someone’s OCD. It is very cool though.

    1. I restacked a fellow's woodpile to show him that he had a less wood than he thought. I was in the wood selling business so it was worth my while. He orded two cords when I got done. Order is the rule.

  6. Have at least enough wood split, stacked and shelters to last several years....far longer than the food will last. And I have lots of calories stored also.

    1. And pray a wildfire doesn't come through and make it all disappear.

I speak from experience. I lost a pile of about 10 cords in a fire in 1994.
Now I keep a one winter stash here at the house, no more.

  7. I’d venture cooking as opposed to heating. You’d be stoking every hour with splits that size & no rounds. I’ll second Matthew on the sugarshack. Or maybe a still….

  9. Never being caught short in a blizzard, this is something I can really respect.
