And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Just so y'all know, shown is a living tree. It might be 4,000 years old. That country is deep in the rain shadow of the mighty Sierra, plus its at elevation, round about 6,000' the lowest, cold and windswept so indeed these trees are slow growing. But oh boy, the tenaacity. The tree shown here I bet is no more than a man's height.
