The rule is, "every time you go to the grocery store, buy an onion."

  1. I thought that was every time you go out buy ammo?

Soon it will be biking weather (snow and ice gone from the roads) and with the price of gas, backpack and bike to shop.

  2. When I was about 15 I asked my mom "Can't you cook anything without onions?"
"Yeah" she said, Tareyton bobbling in her mouth. "But it won't taste like nothin'".

  3. In order; garlic, red onion and bell pepper are mainstays for most every dinner-supper meal. In another life an onion and hot sauce/steak sauce were essential to C-Rat cuisine. Onions-Onions I've been eat'n onions cain't you plainly see they done told a tale on me!-

  4. Onions, green bell pepper and celery are The Trinity of Cajun cooking. Add garlic, cayenne pepper, green onions and parsley and salt and pepper to taste, and sometimes but not always a roux, you can make just about everything they cook down there without anything else.

  5. Onions were one of the small successes in our garden last year. Haven't bought one since last August, and there's still about ten pounds in a tray in the garage.

    1. If you cut off the bottom 1/2" of an onion when you use it and set in water for a few days, then plant it, you can grow a new onion. I've been doing so for a couple of years and have had plenty of green onions and seed from the ones I let mature.
