  1. My Dad had a well worn copy of Endurance. Once started, it is a book that is difficult to put down.

  2. Shackleton was a childhood hero of mine, from the time I read Lansing's book "Endurance" in 1960..

When Endurance was launched at the Framnæs shipyard in 1912, she was probably the strongest wooden ship ever built. The Greenheart sheathing on her hull still looks great.

  3. My U.P. buddy was texting me about this at 6 a.m. this morning. The photos and video released for viewing so far have been almost as amazing as Shackleton's handling of the adventure. A story of men overcoming huge odds!

  4. There is also the older book...Shackleton's Boat Journey by Worseley, that I read decades ago.
What those men endured to get to the whaling station was unbelievable.......

  5. It's over 9000 feet down. We can send cameras to it, but that's about it.
