  2. And cut with the grain exactly 90° wrong, for easiest disassembly in your hands during use.

Why take a piece of wood that gorgeous, and then totally bugger and fornicate the handle execution with such a dumbass rookie mistake?

  4. Save the maple for making violins (or viola if you are of the alto clef persuasion). Use hickory for ax handles.

  5. The stripe pattern is not the grain. The grain in this case can be clearly seen just below the ax head.

    1. I suspect he was not talking about the stripe pattern. If you look at the grain, it has "run out". He is correct, the grain is 90 degrees off. The grain toward the cutting edge only runs down about 3-4 inches. That will split when striking the wood. Also it is poorly made. The eye is too small for that piece of wood. Note the sharp angle cut going into the eye. Too steep it will also fail. Still a beautiful piece of wood. I also agree, hickory and only hickory for that purpose. Note the Swede axe makers (among the best in the world) import US hickory.

    2. Yes, and the grain pattern is sideways.
It should go straight front to back, in line with the head, not side to side, as it does.
Bumblef**ked by some monkey-brained Bubba who couldn't find his own backside with both hands and a mirror.
I see the same thing 75% of the time from Vaughn, who should know better, with $20 hammers, hatchets, and axes, by the box. That's bad enough.
Doing it with Tiger Maple is unpardonably stupid and amateurish beyond description. All that woodworking for nothing, and you might as well put the handle in the woodstove for all the good it'll do.

Somebody stupid enough to do that would install automobile windshields with a ball peen hammer.

This is the kind of amateur hour clownshow b.s. that ought to be beaten out of people with a peeled rattan cane, so the lesson would take properly. Bring back the master/apprentice guild system complete with corporal punishment.
