And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

People are getting riled up, the temperature is rising.
someone asked me the other day if I thought there'd be a virus rebound in the Fall, and we'd go back into lockdown.
I told them not to worry, it wouldn't be politically possible anywhere. Americans have had more than enough of this BS, and wouldn't tolerate it again.
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

I do believe C.J. is right about Americans having enough of this contrived crisis.
ReplyDeleteBut I do not believe that our politicians have had enough of it. I firmly believe that now they have tasted what it's like to be large and in charge, they'll do nothing but get worse. They've gotten away with it so far, and until they get their noses slapped good and hard, they're just gonna keep on sticking it to us.

“Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don’t mean to do harm; but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.”

That was not a timewaster.
