Unbelievable. Maybe the high water has caused Yogi to move away from his usual brushy haunts.
Yuba City is down in the valley. He probably lives along one of the nearby river/riparian environments.
Video of the bear was posted to Facebook on the city of Yuba City's official page. The Facebook post reads:
"Our officers responded to a call of a bear sighting near Buttehouse Road and Harter Parkway last night. We arrived and confirmed it was in fact a bear, likely a cub as it was estimated to be just over 5' tall and about 125 lbs. Upon contacting Fish and Game, we were advised to allow the bear to leave the area on its own so it could find its way back to its habitat. We did this but later received a call at around 2:30 this morning of a bear sighting in the area of Ainsley and Gray Avenue. We responded and found the same bear in that area. The responding officers were able to confine bear to a field in the area of Williams Way and Gray Avenue where it climbed a tree and remained in the tree with the assistance of Sutter County K9 Enzo."
The bear eventually climbed into a tree, where it was tranquilized by California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials, who said the animal was not injured.
There are bears up in the remote Arizona highlands. I had one in the trash two days ago. Tracks IDd it as a bear, likely fresh from hibernation and hungry. It went for paper towels used to soak bacon grease. I returned home to a mess and snow. The trash container wasn’t locked. If it had been, the bear would have torn it up to get access to the “picnic basket”. The 460 S&W with heavier bear loads is on my belt should Yogi get frisky. The pistol is heavy enough that I have to wear suspenders.
ReplyDeleteHad a bear on the pasture in front of my house here in Pine Grove. That was a few years ago. I never saw it. Cougars, coyotes and foxes aplenty. Biggest caliber I have is 8mm Mauser. Maybe some 00 or slugs for the 12 gauge are in order?
