Excellent drone video from the summit of Kīlauea Volcano showing the huge scale of the hole caused by the draining of the lava

Full size this for full appreciation of the changes at the crater.

The volume change, from early May 2018 to present, is over a billion cubic yards. The vertical collapse of the crater floor is more than 1600 ft.

Where did that lava go?  Mainly, out of Fissure 8 and to the sea.

The lava entry zone has built a delta of over 875 acres since the eruption began and the fiery flow reached the sea.

All the close calls fascinate me.  This is the Isaac Hale Beach Park and Boat Ramp, that came within a whisker of annihilation.   The ramp is currently blocked by black lava sand washed across the ramp by the sea current.
