And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

English airship R-31
Imagine being the guy that has to stand up there and shoot at attacking biplanes.
On second thought, if I had a parachute, I'd volunteer.
With a parachute, it's the safest place when you're standing on a giant bag of hydrogen and the Hun is shooting tracers. I'm with you. Sign up for gunner. Jump when the first tracers hit - or you're part of the Hindenberg.
If you are ever in Paris, visit Musee de l'air dt espace at Le Bourget Airport. That is the French air and space museum with wonderful exhibits of planes that were one of a kind from the start of aviation.
Among the exhibits, there is a complete engine gondola from a German Zeppelin shot down over France during WW I. And for the guys who like to go fast, Concorde 1 is on display with the ability to walk through it.
