The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The drill bits should be left-handed. I bought left-handed bits over 40 years ago and have found that quite often when using a left-hand bit the screw turns out, saving you time. Al_in_Ottawa
I have used 2 Craftsman's sets for removing hundreds of very old phillip's head deck screws. I remember it took some patience to learn how to use them and which one to use.

This! I have a partial set of extractors. The ones that are broken usually had the other end welded to a nut.

ReplyDeleteBut you can only use them if the fastener was installed with an Ez-in.
Must be my (lack of) technique - I have never been able to make these work.
ReplyDeleteLH drill bits, carbide end mills (AND a rigid setup), and a welder... EZ outs, maybe, once in a while. These things? Hangar queens.
