The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Because it was intended as a Finger Rest — Leo Fender thought the electric bass would be played with the thumb, more like an upright. So you hook your fingers under that while using your thumb to play the strings.
On later models, it got put above the strings and was a thumb rest, until it was finally removed altogether.
I had a well used Fender bass and a 25 watt Peavy amp. I was not very good with it. They disappeared while I was at Basic.

Used as a student and then completely ruined
