And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
If the driver was forced to pay for the damage they would certainly start watching the mirrors! I've driven big trucks extensively and live in the mirrors.
Power lines & optical fiber, crossed a driveway into a large gravel pit / excavation company. Dump trucks hit those lines, over and over - the drivers supposedly were fired, after the company was charged for repairs.
They continued for years hitting those lines, then the fiber optic customers started demanding payment for lost revenue, due to outages. All the lines were raised (a 2nd time), to 20ft... and continued to get hit by dump trucks.... which were fined.
What finally did the trick? Nobody would insure the company. Decade old problem solved.
Looks like the guy in the white truck trying to catch up with the dump. Look at the way he was pulling in behind rather than passing on the right. Maybe a work buddy?
Operator error, failure to disengage the PTO pump. A leaky/sticky valve will do the rest in stealth mode, at least on the equipment I have driven. Especially if the driver is drunk/tired/otherwise distracted. Happened near me. Hit a bridge under maintenance. The workers on the bridge, directly in his path were likely shxxting.
Saw a guy leave the marina once with a sailboat , on the trailer, with the mast still up...power lines stopped him.
ReplyDeletethe person in the pickup obviously has no situational awareness.
ReplyDeleteIt would be simple to create a warning system that would sound a horn if the dump box was raised above a set speed.

Some do.
Deletenever looked in mirrors ?

DeleteTwo idiots on the same bit of road at the same time never ends well.

ReplyDeleteOK, not a trucker here, so why would one drive his truck at highway speed with the bed raised like that, even if no overhead signs?
ReplyDeleteAlmost certainly came unlatched while driving, either due to mechanical failure or operator error.
