  2. Smog is better now than it was when that photo was taken in spite of more vehicles on the road.

  4. C'mon, man. You were into ballet, right? The Rams came from Cleveland in '46 and changed the pro sports landscape forever. I watched the Dodgers play in the LA Coliseum for 2 years as a kid while they built Dodger Stadium starting in'58. My dad got season tickets and that was a big deal. Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Maury Wills, Gil Hodges, etc. The Lakers followed in '60 and a decent trifecta was initiated.

    1. PS Southern Cal and most of Cal has turned into such crowded, mismanaged clusterf***. I left a long time ago but still root for my roots.

  5. The newest car I can identify is a white ‘66 Ford just to the left of the ‘Truck Route’ sign.

The Dodgers were in pursuit of a repeat of the National League championship in 1966, so I could imagine that this photo was taken on a game day during the heat of the pennant race. The Dodgers indeed won the League championship that season, but fell in a 4-game sweep by the Baltimore Orioles in that year’s World Series.

Regarding this mashup, if they only knew that one could drive to the next offramp (a sudden right turn after a tunnel), drive a short distance to the next right turn, go back over the bridge over the Harbor Freeway, and then drive briefly through a residential neighborhood to the Academy Road entrance to the stadium. More turns, yes, but shorter wait times to enter.
