And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I know a guy who got a Kodiak brown bear with a 454 casull but he practices a lot and stalked it on purpose. I also know a guy who worked as an assistant guide in Alaska who helped put down one that was charging. The client wanted a bear and shot at 100 yards and the bear charged. Between the hunter and guide they put 9 rifle rounds in its chest and it finally went down at under 10 yards. One of the pacers who worked in that camp said all nine shots were in the chest ina six inch circle. If you have to shoot one break bone and slow it down!
The pea shooter will serve 2 purposes. First, to alert the bear to your presence and allow him to find you, and second to make him very angry as he charges.
Firstly, a 45 colt (often called Long Colt) is by no means a toy. It is in the photo to show footprint size. Secondly, a not serious question. Would you rather be shot in the calf by a Winchester 458 magnum or in the heart by a 5.56x45? Accuracy in any dire situation is an absolute necessity, caliber less so.
When bears charge, they "move around", a lot. Almost nobody is good enough to shoot a charging bear in the head. Plus bears heads are hard, some would skip off.
Oh gosh. That’s just a yearling. Moma be bigger.
ReplyDeleteTime to go home. You're not the apex predator today.
ReplyDeleteI would want a bigger gun.
ReplyDeleteThe gun is for himself if the bear charges

DeleteThe gun is for kneecapping your hunting partner. You don’t have to outrun the bear, just him.

Thank God the bear didn’t pick that up, they’re scary enough already…
ReplyDeleteAnd the hammer is in the very unsafe "safety" notch. That notch is too fragile to rely on.
ReplyDeleteThe only safe way to carry a Colt SAA or clone is with the hammer down on an empty chamber.
The monster dropped his gun.
ReplyDeleteShoot into the air and hope it scares him off.
ReplyDelete.454 Casull.

ReplyDeleteA lot of delusions of adequacy here. Maybe delusions of knowledge.
ReplyDeleteUse a Buntline Special for the Kodiaks.
ReplyDeleteAnd you better save the last round of that toy for yourself......

ReplyDeleteSo not one of the 9 rifle rounds was to the head..,??…guess that didn’t want to ruin the trophy..
