And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

The brick fireplace is probably just to make sure that remains anchored to the hillside
how about a big ass rock or rock ledge ? seems like the best way to have it stay in place. not that I spend any time in it. I like houses that don't move or have a good chance of falling down a hillside.
I think the mosquitos there show up on radar.

My Dad would put 20' rebar in retaining walls and bring the all together into a big pit turned down and pour concrete for a huge anchor
