  2. I worked for a Electronics company in the early 70's that required us to wear safety shoes. They had a shoe truck come to the plant and I bought my 1st pair of wingtips. Wish I still had them. I think I even had the plastic pocket protector.

  3. 100 years ago, most work shoes were made of Cordovan (leather from a horse's butt), as it was comfortable and it wore like iron. Then, at some point, it became a luxury material. There isn't a shoe in that picture that sells for less than $900 a pair (the boots - 2, 4, and 6 - go for a grand or more). And they still wear like iron, I have a pair of Alden wingtips (like the 3rd from the top) that I bought over 20 years ago that still look like the day they were bought (unless you turn them over and look at the soles).

  5. Bought a pair of black tassel loafers around 30 years ago for around $250 - most expensive shoes ever for me back then. Quite literally, Aldens wear like iron, as they have stainless steel shanks.

I wear mine around twice a month; leather's in great shape. Think I'm on the 4th re-soling.

  6. I have a pair of 45 year old wingtips. They are the shoes I wear to job interviews, weddings, formal events, and funerals.

  7. Aldens are very nice shoes. Just wish they weren't so expensive.
