And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Shortly after Sports Illustrated was founded, they asked William Faulkner to write an article about a Canadiens hockey game they paid for him to attend. His first sentence was(sic)...
"Last night I attended a fight in Montreal. Then, a hockey game broke out."
If there is one sport that I actually dislike with a passion it is hockey, lived in Canada for a few years & attended school, lets say being a foreigner I was the target when gym class was floor hockey. When teacher was not looking the hockey puck managed to strike me quite often.
When I worked in offshore oil exploration, the very first thing the Canadian crew members would do upon arriving onboard the ships was to check the hockey scores. It was as if a stereotype had come to life.
The NHL is taking the next 3 weeks off so that, ostensibly, its best players can compete in the Olympics against the best from around the world. But, as it turns out, Russia apparently isn't allowed to participate; and they'd almost certainly kick everyone else's ass. Asterisk gold.
