And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Remember when I was growing up I brought the farm truck back from an afternoon of exploring covered in mud, to include on top of the hood. As I was getting home right at dinner time I parked it in the driveway at our house. After dinner I was just behind Dad as we headed out for the evening milking/chores. As he passed the truck he stopped, looked at the hood, and I could tell for a fraction of a second he thought about turning around and saying something. Instead, he just kept walking. He never asked. Dad understood.
