And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
This image is an illustration titled "The Doors of Heorot" by the Canadian artist John Howe.
ReplyDeleteThe artwork depicts the entrance to Heorot, the great mead-hall of King Hrothgar in the Anglo-Saxon epic poem Beowulf.
Howe is a renowned fantasy illustrator, well known for his work related to the worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien and other mythologies.
The ornate carvings and the large, coiled serpent (an Ouroboros) above the door reflect a Norse or Viking art style.
So, unlike so many presentations in the past, this one isn't real.
