  1. Estwings are great tools for the woods. Extra care needed with hatchets, as their short arc will put your body in harms way if you miss. Much better to swing so direction of cut is not in line with your body.

    1. I learned that lesson 60 odd years ago using my Eastwing the first time. Almost buried it in my calf from the front.

  2. I still have one of these that my folks bought for me when I was a Boy Scout about 60 years ago. I haven’t used is recently, but it’s still a good tool.

  3. Never understood the appeal of the Estwing hatchets and hammers. If you miss, the handle will take off a finger or two.

    1. They get dangerous when the leather starts to rot after 50 years or so. You can only make so many repairs with electrical tape. I don’t think they have changed the design a bit in at least 80 years. It’s a tough tool but not a favorite of mine.
