  2. The burrowing owl. Once in my youth in the middle of a very lively quail hunt I accidentally harvested one of them and have felt guilty ever since. Rule 4 violation. Identify your target and what's behind it. When I saw it rolling on the ground and those long legs sticking up I knew I messed up.

    1. 2 died.
Burrowing owls pair bond for life.
When one dies the other dies soon after.
We had a small pond at our Florida house and a pair of Burrowing Owls took up residency there. One presumably got hit by a car but made it back to the pond and died. We buried it in the vacant yard next door. A few days later the other one died and we planted it next to the other one.

  3. Had some of these that would nest in our yard at our previous house ("yard" being a relative term as we were on ten acres with a big cattle ranch next door). Fun to watch as they really do seem to have the personality associated with these kind of pics.
