  1. Avro Lancaster tail gunner. At some point they decided to take the center perspex window out to increase visibility. Too many bombers lost to tiny specks and scratches that suddenly spat 20mm mine shells…But this measure certainly increased losses of body parts to the grim cold!

  2. I've read that the gunner's breath would freeze on the perspex. Starting in 1941 bomber crews were given electrically heated boots and gloves. It looks like the secret Monica tail warning radar antenna has been blurred out by the censor.
