  1. Old bevel drive heads. Built a racing sidehack for vintage racing using one, went really well, was much faster than the boxer powered hacks, but it blew up, already had some miles on it, tried to baby it but it was time to give up the ghost. Couldn't find another engine, so used an old XS 650 twin, great engine, run forever. Can't beat the brute torque the Ducati twin had, particularly having the weight of driver and monkey.

  2. Ducati, because who needs valve springs. There are two cam lobes and fingers per valve, one to push the valve open and another to pull it closed. A marvel of machining that can rev its head off without valve float. Mercedes had desmodromic valve actuation on its 1950s F1 racers too.
