And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
yeah. I remember. they used to have one HUGE city block. not a store. but their east coast whatever it was. and I still have a lot of old Craftsman's tools downstairs. machine tools made of cast iron that will outlast me even. all made in the 1950-60's back when you could buy tools that lasted. my table saw was made in 1952. still running on the same motor too. had to replace the belts and bearing though. a great saw.
Man, Sears was THE store. We kids would start getting antsy in October about the Sears Christmas catalog. Sears labeled it the "Wish Book". And yes, I had those craftsman tools. Lifetime guaranty - although that's not worth anything since Sears went belly up.
Anon, while the quality down due to going for cheaper cost Craftsman still warrantied for life, your old tool ever fails beyond repair you can still get a replacement....,and then keep replacing it!I would say Ace biggest nationwide distributor now.
Sears best times in say 1900 to 1920,could buy firearms/kit houses and dynamite and have all delivered to your home!
My uncle delivered for Sears and all his tools were Craftsmen or Sears Best. Ladders and tools are still working today. If you broke a wrench they replaced it. No questions asked.

We didn't know how good we had it. Gone, never to return.
ReplyDeleteSears. Days were, you could outfit a whole household with them ... and then buy the house from them, too.

ReplyDeleteAs a young lad I studied the ladies undergarment section of the Sears catalog assiduously.
