DeleteInverted V 12 engine, like a BF 109, only requires a form fitting cover over the crankshaft and it's block, so the body work can slope for better visibility, can stuff those upside down engines further via the gear box fir the prop shaft. Lot of benefits to the upside down motor design.

ReplyDeleteThe engine was the same as an ME-109E or F model. Alfa Romeo licence built the DB601 and later the DB605 for the Re2005. The Luftwaffe looked into building them but balked because the Re2001 took 15,000 manhours to build versus 5,000 for an ME-109.
