And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Don't know what model is in this photo, but some B-52s carried an M-61 Vulcan tail gun - 20mm, 6000 rounds per minute. The gun was mounted in an azimuth & elevation gimbal, on what was called the gun slide. There were stacks of Belleville washers between the gun and the slide. When firing commenced the whole gun would move back because of recoil, but when the gun got up to full rate, it was basically stationary within the mount. When firing ceased the stacked Bellevilles would return the gun to its idle position. The point is, that at full rate the gun was certainly vibrating, but it wasn't visibly moving back and forth.
I was in the Cal. Guard, '83-'86, tank support (armament). It's quite the experience, to be standing on the firing line with a dozen ish M60 tanks, doing a "mad minute", with 7.62, .50, and the 105's all going at the same time, at night! All the tracers are going close to the same velocity, 2700 ish, fps. Fort Irwin, haaaauuuuut.

DeleteI you think that’s great, pull the trigger on a 105mm gun and then get back to me.

ReplyDeleteAs suggested above, send her to MN. Then force the few survivors to police the brass before sending them to a prison camp on the Alaska tundra.
