Mark Twain peers out the window of his study during his final visit to Quarry Farm in 1903. Cool little snippet of history.

Susan and Theodore Crane surprised their brother-in-law Samuel L. Clemens with this study in 1874. It was placed about 100 yards from the main house at Quarry Farm on a knoll overlooking the Chemung River Valley. In this octagonal building, Mark Twain wrote major portions of The Adventures of Tom SawyerAdventures of Huckleberry FinnLife on the MississippiA Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s CourtThe Prince and the PauperA Tramp Abroad, and many short pieces.

  1. This little building was moved to the Elmira College campus in Elmira, NY. It is still there and available for public viewing.

  2. We need the inside pictures of 'A Comfortable Place', CW. It must have a decent sized fireplace, looking at that chimney.

  3. Ron Chernow published a new biography of Mark Twain in 2025. I got a copy for Christmas. I learned something new just reading the introduction.
