  1. Used to find them caught in our muskrat trap lines, think they be foshing for fresh water clams, because their front paw would be in a rat trap set on their runs. Nicknamed them gorillas, find one with half a dozen rat traps and the log they got stapled to. Take out the mini Ted Sox bat to club one and invariably the coon would start running thru the brush. They are the woods survival specialists. Nice fur if its not winter burned. Few times we got as mich as $75 per coon fur. In those days the fur buyers wanted the furs scraped clean, but lord they got this gristle thats really hard to scrape without damaging the skins. Local dogs loved coming by for a raccoon lollipop, though the dog food guy came by once a month for most of the skinned bodies.
