One of my Mother's Cousins was a "UDT Frogman" (Navy Seal) in WWII and his team operated from a British Navy Sub off of the Normandy Beaches for Weeks before the Invasion, Mostly Cutting Down the Steel Obstacles and like this, getting rid of Mines. on the morning of the Invasion, they set out Submerged Lanterns, anchored and with Delay Switches, to mark the Cleared Lanes For Landing Craft going in before Dawn.
