  1. Sometimes gold or silver in white quartz forms dendritic patterns, makes very pretty gemstones for jewelry.

  2. gold in matrix is far more expensive than refined gold. This vein would sell at gold price, including the weight of the quartz.

  5. How to tell?

Fool's gold is a common nickname for pyrite, a brass-yellow mineral that resembles gold but is virtually worthless.

Pyrite: Flakes or powders when poked; leaves a dark green/black streak on unglazed porcelain.

Actual Gold: Dents or gouges like soft lead when poked; leaves a golden-yellow streak.

  7. "Wire" gold in quartz. Have to crush the quartz up small and heat it (or use chemicals) to extract the gold but it's near pure. Very little refining needed.
