  1. I am pretty sure that during WW-2, when steel was at a premium, car manufactures decided to use some wood in the production of their automobiles. Hence the "woody" came about.

    1. If that were true there would have been a lot of them. They are in fact very rare, because the amount of custom hand work made them very expensive.

  2. Is that a rumble seat in back?

    1. No, as you can see there is a hinge at the top indicating this is a trunk
      lid. I can't think of an American car past the late 30's that had a rumble
      seat.
