  2. In the 80s those or quite similar were NOT uncommon to see on the roads and certainly on the "off roads."

  3. Had a buddy in high school that outfitted one with tractor tires in the rear. Much larger than this. Got is stuck mudding in the Bonnet Carre Spillway. Much fun.

  4. I was intrigued by the meaning of the license plate as it applies to this vehicle. Here's what I found:

    trip hammer /trĭp′hăm″ər/
    noun
    * A heavy, power-operated hammer that is lifted by a cam or lever and then dropped.
    * A powered machine used in a forge which repeatedly strikes work placed on an anvil.
    * A massive power hammer; raised by a cam until released to fall under gravity.

  5. I knew a guy who said his brother kept a Baja Bug in La Paz back in the 80's and would fly down there and spend a week camping on the beaches.

  6. My 71 baja bug looks like that but lot more ratty. Be tooling down the interstate, kids in other vehicles go bonkers seeing it. Don't know exactly why so, makes me smile and wave too.
