And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Why don't they make stuff like this anymore. I know - cost.
Cost does not equal value. A $500 radio that lasts 100yrs works out to $5 a year. Inversely, that $50 radio years ago will get you $500 100yrs later. That radio, a Silver 159 "Circle" is very rare. Quality examples sell for $2-3K in serviceable condition. Schematics are still available, as well as some aftermarket replacement parts.
More likely no one has the skills anymore.
